MY STORY
Hi, my name is Yeremy and I’m 13 years old.
When I arrived in this country a few years ago, I endured a hardship no child should ever face. I was separated from my mom and placed in a concentration camp in Chicago. There, I endured physical as well as emotional abuse, and the scars of these heartless actions have stuck with me ever since. I want to turn what happened to me into something positive. For that reason, I’m working hard in school and plan to be a lawyer one day so I can help those who need it most.
OUR STRUGGLE
Unfortunately, my story is not unique and thousands of other immigrant families have suffered similar trauma. Between discussions of “rapists” crossing the border, building walls to divide us, and separating families like me and my mom, these past few years seem to highlight the worst of our fears and angers. We all need to stop and realize that deep down we are all the same. If we all realize that we are the same, then we can be nicer to each other.
A CALL TO ACTION
Rather than sit by and do nothing, we have to rise up together and combat these forces that divide us and cause hate. Libre by Nexus helped me not only get out of detention, but also take the fight to the people who ran the concentration camp in Chicago and sue those responsible. I encourage any family that is facing similar challenges to contact them by visiting librebynexus.com or calling 888-997-7646. Libre is helping fund my education and ensuring we stand up for what we believe., It will take me years to finish school and begin to make a difference. If my story moves you please consider what you can do today to make a difference for kids like me, who are still suffering through the trauma of family separations. And, if you know someone in immigration detention, call Libre by Nexus. They fight for our people. They can save you like they saved me!
